About Your Captain
Meet William Donald Spires Jr., or Captain Bill. As the son of a son of a sailor - thank you Jimmy Buffett - Captain Bill started sailing the coastal waters of California as a small child. Throughout his career as an Aerospace Executive, he pursued his love of the sea, owning a number of sail and power boats. He partnered on his first boat in the early 1980's and has been the master of the Mother Mermaid since 2005. Completeing his Coast Guard safety training in the late 80's, Bill continues to renew his knowledge in the latest boating technology and techniques through seminars, reading industry publications and continued experience. Keenly aware of both safety requirements and the ways of the sea, Captain Bill will guide you through the passages and channels off the coast of Southern California and deliver you to the most beautiful and intriguing destinations to be found.
Captain Bill considers hospitality an art form. He is not only your skipper, but he is there to explain anything from sailing and seamanship, to the history of the Islands. He is your guide, your confidant, your bartender and your chef. By the way, Captain Bill has been voted "Best Chef at Sea" three years running, by those who depend on him to get home! All kidding aside, Captain Bill is an accomplished chef and will tailor the menu to your desire.
We also strive to provide you a relaxing vacation from the ordinary. If quiet and solitude are the order of the day, so be it. Captain Bill and the Mother Mermaid can create a uniquely serene envrionment where nature and the sea are your companions.
